The illustration is based off a painting of Filipino artist Cesar Buenaventura, called Simbang Gabi. The painting depicts a typical scene in the rural areas where the faithful would attend the Simbang Gabi. These Masses were celebrated in the early morning hours (typically at about 3-5:00 a.m.), when the roosters crow to announce the coming of a new day.
